Academy Art Center, Honolulu Academy of Arts
For the 81st Annual Exhibition, lithographer Michael Krueger of
the University of Kansas selected 81 prints from the more than 300
submitted by both emerging and established Hawaii printmakers. Some
of the 2009 works are shown below. Click

As part of the Exhibition, the Honolulu Printmakers commissions
an artist to make a Gift Print to celebrate the art of printmaking.
This year’s Gift Print Artist was a lithograph by Maile Yawata, a
well-known local artist who in addition to printmaking also works in
ceramics. The print itself is a closely guarded secret until the
opening reception of the exhibition.
Honolulu Printmakers also conducts free tours of the exhibition
with demonstrations for school groups and the general public. A
popular program, Prints on the Road, takes prints from the
exhibition to rural schools that cannot travel to see the show in
person.
The Annual Exhibition is supported by the Hawaii State Foundation
on Culture and the Arts, Honolulu Academy of Arts Academy Art
Center, the Hugh Stuart Charitable Trust and members and friends of
the Honolulu Printmakers.
